Dr. Billmeyer grew up in Omaha, Nebraska. He attended the University of Iowa and graduated with the highest distinction with a major in biology and a minor in chemistry. He was selected for membership in the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He then moved to Los Angeles where he finished his medical training at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and has been working in urology since then.
What I Do?
I am a urologist, which means I perform surgical procedures as well as treating people for conditions in their urinary tract and male genitalia including kidney stones, an enlarged prostate, BPH (Benign Prostate Hyperplasia), and infections in their penis, testicles, or other organs around those areas. I trained under two great doctors at two of Chicago’s best hospitals: Mt. Sinai and Rush University Medical Center where I learned everything from treating patients with sexual dysfunction to performing open-heart surgery on a baby whose heart was beating outside his body.
Who I Am
My name is Dr. Billmeyer, and I’m a urologist. Growing up in Omaha, Nebraska was great! It gave me a good foundation for my future career. I went to college at the University of Iowa where I graduated with the highest distinction with a major in biology and minor in chemistry. After graduating from college, I attended medical school at the University of Iowa College of Medicine where I was selected for membership in the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.
Where I Work
Located in South Florida, I’m a board-certified urologist who specializes in diseases and conditions that affect men and women’s urinary tract and male reproductive organs. My practice is unique because I also treat people with gynecological issues, as well as both men and women suffering from erectile dysfunction (ED). As such, my medical practice encompasses three medical specialties: urology, gynecology and sexual medicine.
My Personal Life:
I’m a urologist, yes you read that right, but I was also a major in Chemistry and Biology. I have always had an interest in science, it is my passion.

How I Got Here?
I got started in a roundabout way by first becoming a teacher and then working for an insurance company. After being in sales for several years, I went back to school and became a physician assistant, and eventually, I was able to become a urologist. When I decided I wanted my own practice, it was easier than ever thanks to technology that allowed me to learn while doing instead of sitting through years of classes when there were plenty of things out there that could teach me on my own time. That combined with my success selling products online led me on an entrepreneurial journey that continues today and allows me to help patients lead better lives. Here’s how you can do it too!
My Education:
After high school, I studied biology at the University of Iowa and graduated with the highest distinction in 1985. In 1989, I earned my medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine and graduated as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. From there, I completed a four-year residency program in general surgery at UAB/University Hospital and followed it up with another two years at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine where I was named chief resident in my final year. After that, I was back to Birmingham for another three years where I served as Chief Resident for urology services at Children’s Hospital before opening my practice in Hoover in 1998. The following year, 1999, I became board certified by The American Board of Urology.
Further Reading and Links on Anxiety Disorders:
I also have other blogs on anxiety disorders and treatment options: There are several causes of anxiety, and so many ways to treat it…and so much information out there! This can be daunting for people looking for answers, which is why I wrote a special book called Anxiety Sucks! It offers an easy-to-understand explanation of what anxiety is and how you can overcome it using simple methods that require little or no effort from you. The book covers dozens of topics and includes self-help strategies based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Here are some more links I’ve written about anxiety and related disorders
